Franklin, Benjamin (1706-1790)
Benjamin Franklin an American printer,scientist,publisher and statesman who played an important part in the
formation of the United States of America as a nation.
Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the tenth son of 17 children.
At 12 years he went to work for his brother, a printer in Philadelphia, but gave it up in 1748 to study science.
He proved that Lightning is electrical and later invented the lightning Conductor to protect buildings.
He came to England to try to settle some tax disputes but returned to the United States in 1775, before the American War of Independence.
Franklin helped draft their Declaration of Independence and was one of those who signed the Constitution.
