Hyppocrates (ca. 460 BC – ca. 370 BC)
Hyppocrates was an ancient Greek philosopher and physician who was born about 460 BC on the island of Kos.
Little is known of his early life, but he travelled widely in Greece and the Middle East, teaching his theories of Medicine.
He is often referred to as 'the father of medicine'. However, little is known about 'Hippocrates' own work,
and most of the Hippocratic medicine we know about today was developed later by his followers.
The most lasting influence of Hippocrates is the Hippocratic oath, which lays down a code of principles for the doctor,
ensuring that the good of the patient is always the most important part of treatment.
