Dennis Gabor (1906-1979)
Gabor was a Hungarian-born physicist who worked in Britain.
He developed the theory behind holography during the 1940s, but actual holography became possible only after the laser was developed at the beginning of the 1960s.
The powerful light of the laser allowed high-quality holograms to be made.
Gabor eventually received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1971.
