Guglielmo Marconi (1874-1937)

Marconi, Guglielmo was the Italian scientist who invented a system for sending messages (in Morse code)long distances without wires.
He began experimenting with transmitting Radio waves in 1894. He improved the Antennae and receivers available then and succeeded in sending bursts of radio energy over about 2.4km.
Two years later he worked with Sir William Preece, the post Office Chief Engineer in Britain.
He Increased the range of his transmissions to 14km (across the Bristol Channel) and set up a land station in Italy to communicate with warships (19km) at sea.
In 1899 British warships succeeded in communicating over 120km.
In 1901, Marconi sent radio messages from Poldhu in Cornwall, England, to St John's in Newfoundland: the beginning of worldwide radio Communications.
